The wiring on both analogue and digital layouts can become quite complex particularly if the layout develops rather than starting with a fixed design. Often wiring is an 'after thought', the necessary evil to make the layout operate. If not completed in an ordered logical way wiring can become very untidy and a problem particularly if it is just left to hang under the layout. It can be easy to catch if access is needed under the layout and as a result wires may be pulled out and not easy to trace. Professional Layout Services offer a full re-wiring service which can include the fitting of connectors and new control panels. The image below left shows typical wiring on many layouts with cables hanging down and easy to damage. The image bottom right is from the same layout after the track section wiring has been replaced and tidied - the red cables and connector, plus the start of a new cable loom for turnout motors and layout accessories. The rewired layout has more than double the quantity of cables between the control panel and the layout however because the wiring is neater it actually looks like less wires are present. To protect the new wiring and further improve the appearance spiral cable wrap can be used to contain the cables and covers added to the DIL connectors.
